COMPOST (#017) – Snappy Little Numbers

I don’t know about you, but I like my numbers little and snappy. Big numbers just confuse and frustrate me. Don’t even show me a number if it isn’t snappy. That would be a total waste of my time, and obviously time is at a premium. That’s why the longest song on this compilation is… oh wait… Five minutes? Jeezis! I guess nevermind everything I just said. Look pal, if I were you, first of all I’d send five hundred American dollars to Steve Doesnt. THEN, immediately after that, I would sign up for bandcamp and follow every band on this comp. If you’re already on bandcamp, I beg your pardon, but the important thing is that you give me money, and I’ll thank you in advance for being snappy about it. If you work at Snappy Little Numbers, thank you for these cool tunes, and thank you in advance for the $500 you’ll be sending me for Christmas this year. In conclusion, I’m poor.

My personal feelings about children are generally negative. I mean I do not like them very much, but the thought of them being mistreated infuriates me to no end. If you feel the same way you should contribute to one of the organizations helping the kids at the border. Better yet, you can purchase this wicked comp from Open Door Records, and the proceeds will be donated to the cause. I mean you help kids and you get a bunch of cool tunes. Sounds like a solid plan to me. It’s unfortunate that such a comp even has to exist but let’s not get me started on a political tirade right now. Just go get this thing. It’s full of squeaky-clean pop punk, emo, some screaming, a bit of funk(?), and some other stuff. Whatever, it’s mostly/partially good. The Smilies are on here but their best song is not. Are you sold yet? I know I’m making this sound incredible.

Obviously I was drawn to this because it features a remaster of an old Fifteen song (the original sounds better). You’ll also find songs from RVIVR and Samiam. How could this not be a wicked-awesome comp? They’re doing good werk over there and Dead Broke Rekerds, and by ‘over there’ I mean, that way. I’m pointing East right now. This is a sampler ok. What that means is, it’s free. You can just take it! All of it. Hurry up before they change their mind. Hehe suckers.

Back in the 90’s, before everyone and their dog had a skateboard, punk rock and skateboarding were pretty much synonymous with each other. Most skaters were punks and most punks attempted to be skaters. That’s how it was where I grew up anyway. Out in Flint Michigan (home of poisonous water) the skaters were punks too. It’s all chronicled here on this stupendous comp of live recordings in the late 90’s from a Flint skate shop called Empire Of One. The Get Up Kids, Hot Water Music, even Jimmy Eat World all got their start there. Ok they didn’t get their start there but they played there and it was amazing (probably).
